Short answer: Coupa describes itself as an AI spend management platform covering direct and indirect spend, risk and supply chain, and groups its customers into "Enterprise" and "Mid-Market" (as of October 2026). It publishes no prices. Small businesses usually look for alternatives because they need the core purchasing controls (requests, approvals, POs, invoice matching, budgets) without an enterprise-style implementation. Alternatives built for that size include Precoro, Procurify, Tradogram, Spendwise and Foxpedite; four of them publish at least some pricing.

What Coupa publishes (as of October 2026)
- Positioning: its homepage describes an AI-native spend platform for direct and indirect spend, risk and supply chain resilience.
- Audience: navigation by team (supply chain, finance, procurement, IT), about 20 industries, and size ("Enterprise", "Mid-Market"). It cites the share of the Fortune 500 that works with Coupa.
- SMB page: a Coupa resource for small to midsize businesses says the platform scales from a company's 10th employee to its 10,000th.
- Pricing: none published; demo and contact links. G2's Coupa pricing page lists no free plan or trial (G2 data dated 2021, so treat as possibly outdated).

What a 50-person company actually needs
Enterprise suites cover sourcing events, supplier risk, contract lifecycle, treasury and more. A typical 20–300 person company usually needs:
- Purchase requests with approvals by amount and department
- POs sent to vendors
- Budgets per department or project, checked before money is committed
- Receiving and three-way match
- Vendor records and basic vendor performance tracking
- Sync with QuickBooks Online (or similar)
- Reporting on open POs and committed vs actual spend
If your list is much longer than this (global subsidiaries, supplier risk scoring, complex sourcing events, multiple ERPs), an enterprise suite may be the right tool.
Example scenario: a 90-person manufacturer quoted for an enterprise suite
Example scenario (illustrative). A new controller joins from a large company that used an enterprise suite. They want the same controls at a 90-person manufacturer on QuickBooks Online: three approval tiers, departmental budgets, three-way match on raw materials.
- They list their must-haves (above) and finds that 7 of 7 are covered by SMB procurement platforms.
- They budget using published prices: e.g., Foxpedite Advanced at $740/month for 20 included users, +$39/user. With 35 users needing accounts: 15 × $39 = $585 → $1,325/month (Advanced allows up to 40 users).
- They ask the enterprise vendor for a written first-year total including implementation, and compares.
When Coupa is the better choice
- Enterprise or upper mid-market scale, with multiple legal entities, regions or ERPs.
- Direct spend and supply chain needs (supplier risk, resilience, sourcing optimization) beyond indirect purchasing.
When an SMB tool may fit better
- Your must-have list matches the checklist above.
- You want a published price and a trial.
- You run QuickBooks Online, not an ERP.
Where Foxpedite fits

For companies still running purchasing on spreadsheets, email and QuickBooks. The moment someone drafts a purchase, Foxpedite reserves it against the budget, so you see overspend at the request, not at month-end. On Advanced, approvals route by amount and department, approvable from email; invoices pay only when PO, receipt and invoice match. Published plans go up to 40 users on Advanced; larger teams use Enterprise (custom).
